Is she an angel, daddy?

Fated Love

Artist's Comments:
Mars and Elizabeth as ponies.

And now, a not-so-quick history lesson! As you all know, Elizabeth and Mars were born in the small nation of Djinn, a country in the clouds. Maybe you don't. Elizabeth was the only daughter of the king and queen of Djinn, Karim and Adelaide Celeste, both pure blooded alicorns (yes, the informal name is used on Superion). Mars was the son of Okeanos Adonis the hippocampus and Aeries Adonis the pegasus. Aeries died along with Mars' twin brother in childbirth, and though his father wished to return to the sea, he took on the role of a Djinn soldier in order to raise his son in the clouds his late wife loved. As it happened, Mars caught sight of Elizabeth one morning and was stricken with a hopeless infatuation; as a member of the royal family would never marry outside of the pure-blooded light class of alicorn. Anyway, Djinn was the richest country on Superion, which prompted Mammon to pillage and destroy it. During the attack, a band of soldiers, Okeanos included, attempted to whisk the royal family to safety, but was overrun by Mammon's minions and slaughtered. As fate would have it, Mars and Elizabeth were both too young to fly and were dropped into the ocean during the attack. Mars struggled to drag Elizabeth ashore, unaware of the fact he was half hippocampus and could breath underwater (you don't learn these things when you live in the clouds). For years, this terrifying struggle left Mars hydrophobic, but that's a rabbit trail. Shortly after reaching the shore, Elizabeth ran to the nearest forest, where she met the four Smiley brothers, whom she has lived with to present date. After losing track of Elizabeth, Mars wandered from city to city, until years later, he found her again. While neither of them remember their parents' names (other than "Mommy" and "Daddy") or heritage, Elizabeth did recall others addressing her as "Young Lady Celeste", which she took as her last name (though she spelled it without the extra "e" until recently).

Though neither of them really remember much from before Mammon's attack, that's how they came to be here.
