This is probably a good place to dump some exposition on you, though. As established in the last chapter, the Mecha-Smiles project has a history dating back roughly 30 years prior to the events of this page. Once Mecha-Smiles gained sentience, it was decided that controls should be in place so he couldn’t go nuts and start blasting people, ergo, he needed a captain. He’d much rather be free to roam, though.
Jeff is being assisted here by the buger team. The bugers are a sessile race found on Supirion and its moons, probably the most sophisticated of all races, excepting perhaps their cousins, the blugers. Blugers have no interest in technology or the accumulation of wealth, though, so the smilans and bugers take turns taking advantage of one another. Fortunately, though, Jeff has an excellent working relationship with his pit crew.
All this is stuff we’ll get to eventually, but since it may take years, I’m dropping it now.
