This chapter, “Means to an End” is only ten or twelve pages, but I’ve slaved over it for a year. The drawings turned out okay, I guess, if messy. The plot sort of ambles along and feels clunky in places… But it’s not really about those things anyway. While working on it, I read some Sandman comics, some Tintin, some Barks Ducks comics, some of Joyce’s Ulysses, some of Jarry’s Ubu Roi, some books on language, cognition, and sociology. I know all that sounds obnoxiously snooty, but I mention as kind of a hint as to how to decrypt the comic. There’s a lot going on in every panel, and it’s rife with allusions. The meaning is nowhere to be found on the surface.
